Description

Objective:

This course provides a comprehensive overview of foundational concepts in Pathophysiology, studying pathology and treatment of diseases. The content utilizes anatomy and physiology as our starting point to understand how diseases manifest and impact specific body systems and the body as a whole. The course is divided into sections related to the basics, levels of organization, the integumentary system, the skeletal system, the muscular system, the nervous system, senses, the endocrine system, the cardiovascular system, the lymphatic system, the respiratory system, the digestive system, the excretory/urinary system, the male and female reproductive systems, and clinical applications related to various systems.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Compare and contrast the major functions and roles of the major body systems.
  • Identify and distinguish the main components, networks, and processes involved in each major body system.
  • Describe and apply the main concepts and principles of disease.
  • Recall and interpret the mechanisms employed by body systems in response to pathogens, injuries, and the disruption of homeostasis.
  • Identify, compare, and contrast abnormal physiologic mechanisms and pathways associated with disease processes.
  • Differentiate normal and abnormal physiologic processes, structures and functions, and clinical manifestations.
  • Analyze and form conclusions based on examples in pathophysiology.
  • Recognize aging in the various body systems and body as a whole.
  • Identify clinical risk factors, etiology, manifestations and presentations, and diagnostic tests and tools related to disease treatment.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the normal physiology of each body system.
