Objective:
The course objective is to provide students with the knowledge to make an educated analysis of a calibration system and verify its compliance to applicable standards. The course delivers to the students the information needed to perform an evaluation of a supplier's calibration system. The outcome of this class will be the ability to make risk and product acceptance decisions related to product presented by the supplier.
Learning Outcomes:
- Recognize the importance of calibration standards and guides, including: ISO 17025 - general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories; ISO 10012 – Measurement management systems – Requirements for measurement processes and measuring equipment; and ANSI Z540 – Calibration Laboratories and Measuring and Test Equipment – General Requirements
- Recognize when the intervals of calibration and calibration procedures have been managed in accordance with the supplier's documented procedures
- recognize the importance of calibration to quality assurance
- And ANSI Z540 - calibration laboratories and measuring and test equipment - general requirements
- Audit the supplier's calibration records against the standard's requirements
- Select the written description of a supplier's calibration system that meets the standard's requirements
- ISO 10012 - measurement management systems
- Requirements for measurement processes and measuring equipment
- Identify the out-of-tolerance information
- Identify the factors that may contribute to measurement uncertainty and error
- Identify the documentation that proves a given Quality Assurance technician is qualified to perform an identified process
- Define the hierarchy of measurement standards
- select the environmental controls required to ensure calibration measurements are accurate
General Course Topics:
- Calibration system standards and calibration system evaluations
