Description

Objective:

To provide the student with an understanding of accounting concepts, theory and practice (Principles I & II, Intermediate I); proficiency in PC applications and computerized accounting packages; and comprehensive knowledge of business and economic theory.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Use common business computer applications to prepare advanced spreadsheets, documents, databases, and presentations/communications-(Software: Primarily Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel)
  • Identify and look-up five common economic indicators and list their current readings
  • Record, summarize analyze and interpret financial data from recording of individual transactions through end-of-period adjustments and preparation of financial statements
  • Understand complex accounting issues and the related methods, computations and techniques for resolving these issues (examples: dollar average LIFO, hybrid depreciation methods, Tax vs. GAAP issues, installment sales, contingencies, EBITDA calculations, etc.)
  • Understand relationships between unemployment, inflation and interest rates
  • Describe banking system and role of Federal Reserve
  • Understand and use all transaction types and prepare appropriate summary reports and financial statements using Peachtree and QuickBooks accounting software
