Description

Objective:

To provide a broad overview of the field of ethics in general by explaining the most basic ethical concepts and describing the shape of the different branches of ethical study.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Compare and contrast meta-ethics, ethical theory, and applied ethics
  • Assess arguments in ethical debates
  • Discuss specific ethical issues using relational concepts and examples consistent with the course readings to support responses
  • Read, think and write clearly in a philosophical way

  • Ethical theories (such as utilitarianism and existentialism), ethical concepts (such as justice and respect), meta-ethics, moral reasoning, social and personal ethical practice, medical ethics, professional ethical practice, and environmental issues
