Description

Objective:

The course objective is to teach students to successfully perform the job as a Background Investigator, demonstrating the capability to accomplish an efficient, effective, accurate, timely, and complete investigation that meets the requirements set forth by the agency.

Learning Outcomes:

  • understand a high level overview of the background investigations process
  • apply general coverage concepts to Tiered Investigations
  • review the Field Work System to identify items and scheduled coverage methods, assigned completion date, all canceled items, and any messages pertaining to the case
  • annotate information in your notes following OPM guidance on note-taking
  • explain the use of the SF86 security questionnaires
  • understand steps taken to prepare for a personal source interview
  • discuss the Privacy Act as it pertains to records
  • discuss the 13 adjudicative guidelines; navigate FWS
  • recognize reportable information by using the FBITP National Security Reporting Guide and applying reporting guidelines to ESI, personal sources, and records
