Description

Objective:

The AS Travel and Tourism examination is composed of two parts. Paper 1 assesses the student’s understanding of themes and concepts through written multi-part structured questions over 2 hours. For Paper 2, students work on a project that involves planning and managing a travel and tourism event. Students work in a team but present their project individually. It is internally assessed and externally moderated.
The A Level Travel and Tourism examination has two additional components. Students answer two multi-part structured questions on Destination Marketing based on stimulus materials in 1 hour and 30 minutes. Paper 4 covers Destination Development and Management through multi-part questions responding to stimulus material over 1 hour and 30 minutes. Marks from Papers 1 & 2 at the AS Level are carried over and combined with Papers 3 and 4 to comprise the completion examination at the A Level.

Skills Measured:

There are four assessment objectives: 1) Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of facts, terms and concepts of travel and tourism; 2) Apply knowledge and understanding of facts, terms and concepts to familiar and unfamiliar contexts in travel and tourism; 3) Analyse travel and tourism issues, showing an understanding of the possible impacts of those issues on travel and tourism, and use appropriate research techniques; and 4) Evaluate information to develop arguments, understand implications, draw inferences and make judgements, recommendations and decisions.
