Description

Objective:

To provide the student with a thorough understanding of the role of the federal government in developing small arms for the American military to include an historic overview of small arms manufacturing and application of machinery in the production of firearms.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain U.S. small arms research and development from the time of the post Revolutionary Period to the current era
  • Analyze the impact of the Springfield Armory on the development of American small arms systems
  • Assess whether or not American inventors and soldier-technologists have adequately responded to U.S. ground combatants with regards to the development of combat effective small arms systems
  • Analyze the symbiotic relationship between the private sector and government small arms developers
