Description

Objective:

The course objective is to prepare the student to perform specialty engineering experiments and analyses using simple and multiple linear regression analysis and single factor analysis of variance (ANOVA) including the capability and expertise required to plan, conduct, analyze and evaluate the results of such experiments.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Derive and contrast with regression techniques the theory of design and analysis of experiments and the techniques used for simple comparative experiments for making inferences about differences in means using randomized designs and paired comparison designs
  • Extend the theory of the analysis of variance for single factor experiments and the techniques used for the fixed effects model, model adequacy checking, practical interpretation of results and nonparametric methods and analysis of variance using randomi
  • Develop from first principles the theory of simple and multiple linear regression analysis and the techniques necessary to develop regression models using least squares procedures
  • Explain the theory of regression model checking and the techniques and methods used for correcting any detected model inadequacies

General Topics:

  • Simple linear regression analysis, multiple linear regression and polynomial regression analysis, Design and Analysis of Experiments (DoE), The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
