Description

Objective:

To provide students a comprehensive survey of the development of the concept of military aviation and the development of air power as a strategic and tactical weapon of war.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the roles of technology and industrial supremacy in the development and utilization of air power
  • Demonstrate on understanding the development of air power and the factors that led to its adoption as a weapon of war
  • Understand the expectations created by arch-proponents of air power such as Guilio Douhet and Billy Mitchell
  • Understand the role played by air power in the conflicts of the 20th Century
  • Understand the relationships between the development of air power and sympathetic political processes
