Statement by ACE President Ted Mitchell on the Threats Against HBCUs
February 03, 2022

"We stand with our students and colleagues in solidarity against the deplorable and cowardly bomb threats against Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). It's no coincidence that these latest attacks occur as we begin to observe Black History Month, a time when we as a nation should celebrate the many contributions of Black Americans and successes of our HBCUs.

Our campuses are a model of inclusion and diversity, intellectual light, boundless optimism, and opportunity. No campus and no individual should be subject to racial violence and intimidation. But for too many of our students and colleagues, the threats against our HBCU campuses across the country are a reminder of the reality of racial violence and inequities that are present every day.

We appreciate the work of the FBI and law enforcement authorities to swiftly bring to justice those perpetrating these hate crimes. An attack on any of us is an attack on all of us. We must redouble our efforts to work as a higher education community and as a nation to defeat hatred and injustice once and for all."
