The Joint Special Operations University (JSOU), located at MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, FL, was activated in 2000 as the Special Operations Forces (SOF) educational entity of the United States Special Operations Command. JSOU strives to be an institution of the future, incorporating new curriculum, instructional programs, and teaching methods, while continually adapting to changing global conditions. JSOU's mission is to develop SOF and SOF enablers for strategic and operational leadership; educate military and civilian professionals on the employment of SOF in a joint, interagency, and multinational environment; and conduct research and publish on national security issues critical to the SOF community. The Joint Special Operations University (JSOU) student population includes U.S. officers, non-commissioned officers, and civilians, as well as interagency and international students. JSOU offers a wide range of intensive, interactive, mission-oriented distance learning and resident courses, ranging from 2-day seminars to 8-month classes, providing the knowledge to think critically and lead integrated efforts successfully in peace and in war.Special Operations Forces subject matter expert instructors explain cutting edge battlefield strategic and operational concepts using a balanced mix of instruction, current event discussions, and hands-on activities, engaging students in real world scenarios. Courses are continually evaluated for currency and relevancy to ensure students develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to effectively plan, operate, and lead in current and future operating environments. In 2009, the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU) received national accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The University also maintains an articulation agreement with the Florida Department of Education. Articulation agreements with several nationally and regionally accredited, degree-granting institutions serve to expand collegiate relationships. In addition, nine of JSOU's twenty-seven courses have received CREDIT® recommendations by the American Council on Education.
