Since 1958, Prince George's Community College (PGCC) has been a leading institution providing credit and non-credit opportunities to students of Prince George County, Maryland. The college courses aid students by providing training and preparation for the county's workforce. PGCC provides students with high quality and affordable education. In addition to the credit programs at PGCC, the Workforce Development and Continuing Education (WDCE) unit provides a wide variety of programs to meet the learning needs of the county including local residents, businesses, government agencies, and a variety of special populations with unique learning needs. More than 500 WDCE courses, workshops, and special programs are offered each year at more than 60 locations throughout the county. To provide these learning solutions, WDCE partners with dynamic, knowledgeable instructors, businesses, local government and non-profit community services agencies.; ; PGCC WDCE course offerings include: CompTIA and Microsoft, industry-recognized, national certification exams in A+, Network +, Security+, and the Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA Windows Server 2012). These course offerings will increase the number of effective and flexible programs available to meet the growth and demands of the industry. Each of the courses contributes to the whole of the student's mastery; each course focuses on the skills required of a specific certification but contains overlapping information from other certification contents. Students are given a desired outcome and are expected to create a plan, then design, configure, test, and document the results. Although there is a separate certification exam for each, the CompTIA and Microsoft competencies work together in the real world. Descriptions of the certifications follow:; ; 1. A+ instruction teaches students the components of the CPU and how to assemble, and troubleshoot them. (courses = A+ Essentials and A+ Practical).; 2. Network+ instruction provide the skills to install, configure, maintain and troubleshot networked computers.; 3. Security+ instruction teaches network security, compliance and operational security, threats and vulnerabilities, and identity management.; 4. Windows Server 2012 instruction covers installation, upgrade, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the network operating system.
