Organization

GED Testing Service (GEDTS) is a joint venture between the American Council on Education (ACE) and Pearson. The organization was formed in 2011 and was modeled to represent a public-private partnership. It builds on its past experience in adult and continuing education by leveraging the considerable resources of Pearson, the world's largest education and testing company, with the nearly 70-year history of ACE to expand access to the GED test, ensure its quality and integrity, and adapt the GED test to the skills needed in the 21st century.

GEDTS has offered the GED test as a high school equivalency assessment since 1942. Since then, more than 20 million individuals have earned their second chance at a high school credential and received their passport to postsecondary education, better jobs, and family-sustaining wages by passing the GED test. The GED test is the only high school equivalency test that has been designed from the ground up and that is currently aligned to college- and career-readiness standards.

The score scale on the GED test has a range of 100 - 200 Scaled Score points and is subdivided into four performance levels:
Performance Level 1: Below Pass (Scaled Scores 100 - 144).
Performance Level 2: Pass/High School Equivalency (Scaled Scores 145 - 164).
Performance Level 3: GED College Ready (Scaled Scores 165 - 174).
Performance Level 4: GED College Ready+Credit (Scaled Scores 175 - 200).

A student who scores in the range of 165 - 174 Scaled Score points in any given content area of the test has demonstrated college readiness skills in that area. This enables the student to be waived from all developmental education requirements or courses and placement testing in that content area at their post-secondary institution upon entry.

A student who scores in the range of 175 - 200 Scaled Score points in any given content area of the test has demonstrated skills reflective of the appropriate content, scope, and rigor for college credit recommendations. This enables the student to be waived from all developmental education requirements or courses at their post-secondary institution upon entry.
