Organization

Founded in 1941 from a partnership between the International Brotherhood of Electrical
Workers (IBEW) and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), the electrical
training ALLIANCE (etA) was created to address the electrical industry's need for standardized,
high-quality, nationwide training to:
• support the growth and safety of North America's infrastructure, and
• provide electrical workers with the skills, knowledge, and abilities needed to thrive professionally and serve their communities

The etA leads the development of the official IBEW-NECA apprenticeship courseware,
advancing training while adapting to industry and technological changes. To achieve this, we set national training standards, ensure compliance with federal and state requirements, and
provide tools, resources, and instructor training so the over 300 NECA-IBEW local
apprenticeship and learning centers can deliver consistent, exceptional education. Through this coordinated apprenticeship system, combining on-the-job experience with related instruction, the etA has helped more than one million apprentices become high-performing, safety-focused electrical workers. Throughout our history, our mission has remained the same: to advance the electrical industry by designing, building, and supporting the training systems that produce the most skilled, safe, and adaptable electrical professionals.
