Statement by ACE President Molly Corbett Broad on Department of Education's Ratings Plan

June 25, 2015

“We are strongly in favor of students and their families having accurate, meaningful and useful information that enables them to make informed college choices. Our reservation about a federal ratings system that relies on imperfect and incomplete data is that it could create perverse incentives, mislead students and damage institutions.

Based on today’s statement by the Department of Education, it appears the administration is going in the right direction—away from a simplistic, one-size-fits-all approach that would do more harm than good and toward a consumer-oriented system that recognizes the diversity of American higher education.

We look forward to learning more about this plan as the Department of Education provides additional information.”
