Higher Education Coalition Urges Congress to Protect, Strengthen Federal Investment in Student Aid
April 05, 2017

ACE is among the 576 organizations and higher education institutions sending a letter to Congress today urging members to protect the federal student loan program and strengthen Pell Grants, which the groups call “the nation’s most important investment in higher education.”

The letter, which was coordinated by the Student Aid Alliance and a number of other national education groups, represents a diverse range of organizations nationwide, from colleges and universities to associations and nonprofits focused on college access, attainment, preparation and financial assistance.

“Recent troubling proposals to significantly cut or eliminate funding for Pell Grants, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG), Federal Work Study (FWS), TRIO, GEAR UP and other programs threaten the stability of our nation’s higher education and workforce systems,” the groups wrote. “Federal student aid serves a critical role in preserving access to higher education, and enabling student success at a time when postsecondary education has never been more necessary to support the American economy.”

The Student Aid Alliance is co-chaired by ACE and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.
