ACE Women’s Network Event: Washington State University

A two-hour networking event for women faculty and administrators was held on Monday, June 15, 2015 at Washington State University (WSU) Spokane. The event drew over 125 women from WSU, Eastern Washington University (EWU), the Community Colleges of Spokane, Gonzaga University (WA), and Whitworth University (WA).

The event was held on WSU Spokane's campus and entailed a panel discussion with three women leaders—Lisa Brown, chancellor of WSU Spokane, Mary Cullinan, president of EWU, and Christine Johnson, chancellor of the Community Colleges of Spokane, who joined the participants for a reception afterwards.

The Spokane event was one of several regionally focused events held throughout the state. The planning group consisted of:

  • Chio Flores, State Coordinator and Assistant Dean of Students, WSU
  • Judy Biggs Garbuio, Vice President for Student Development, Gonzaga University
  • Amy McCoy, Director of Compliance, Community Colleges of Spokane
  • Stacy Morgan Foster, Vice President for Student Affairs, EWU
  • Caroline Simon, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Whitworth University
  • Judy Zeiger, Director of Student Affairs, WSU Spokane

A panel discussion kicked off the event, followed by a reception. The panel, moderated by Caroline Simon, included WSU Spokane Chancellor Lisa Brown, EWU President Mary Cullinan, and Spokane Community Colleges Chancellor Christine Johnson. These women leaders shared stories and insights on their career trajectory, success factors, work/life balance, and issues facing women in terms of advancement.

The event was highly successful in terms of turnout, sponsorship, and the positive comments during and after. The Washington State Network is currently planning a state conference for Spring 2016 and plans to invite event attendees.
