Celebrate College Signing Day 2023
May 01, 2023

College Signing Day 2023 is underway, featuring a series of events that began in late April and continue this month as high schools, higher education institutions and communities nationwide celebrate students committed to pursuing an education past high school.

College Signing Day is an effort by Reach Higher, launched in 2014 by former First Lady Michelle Obama, and Better Make Room, a student-facing campaign supporting Reach Higher. Both organizations are part of Common App, a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to access, equity, and integrity in the college admissions process.

The organizations note that whether students plan to attend a community college, a four-year university, a certificate program, the military, or any other education past high school, College Signing Day demonstrates support for all students making decisions for their future.

Research finds that individuals with higher levels of education earn more, pay more taxes, and are more likely than others to be employed and to have job benefits such as retirement plans and health insurance. Adults with more education are also more likely to be engaged citizens and less likely to rely on public assistance, according to College Board's Education Pays 2023.

Since 2014, there have been College Signing Day events in 50 states conducted with hundreds of partners, in thousands of schools and with millions of students.
