In the face of a coronavirus-induced recession, how will the
broader national economic outlook affect higher education institutions and
students? This is the question to be explored by the ACE Engage® plenary
webinar “Economic
Trends in Higher Education” taking place June 22 at 1 p.m. EDT.
The webinar will feature ACE President Ted Mitchell; Georgia
State University President Mark P. Becker; and Roger W. Ferguson Jr., president
and CEO of TIAA, which is
generously supporting the event.
Ted Mitchell became president of ACE on Sept. 1, 2017. Other
career highlights include serving as president of Occidental College from
1999–2005 and as U.S. under secretary of education from 2014 until January
2017, overseeing postsecondary education policies and programs.
Mark Becker began his tenure as Georgia State University’s
seventh president in January 2009. Prior to joining the ranks of higher
education leadership, Becker, who is trained as a statistician, had a
distinguished career in biostatistics and public health sciences. He serves on
ACE’s Board of Directors and is the immediate past chair.
Roger Ferguson is the former vice chairman of the Board of
Governors of the U.S. Federal Reserve System. As the only governor in
Washington, D.C. on 9/11, he led the Fed’s initial response to the terrorist
attacks, taking actions that kept the U.S. financial system functioning while
reassuring the global financial community that the U.S. economy would not be
paralyzed.
Each speaker will present unique insights into the financial
future of higher education during the June 22 webinar. Click
