Statement by ACE President Ted Mitchell on Ninth Circuit DACA Ruling

November 08, 2018

“We applaud today’s unanimous court decision keeping the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy in force. However, it also serves to underscore the unacceptable legal and political limbo in which the hundreds of thousands of bright and talented young people known as Dreamers continue to find themselves.

This ruling by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals is a welcome, though not surprising development; a bevy of lawsuits nationwide have challenged the administration’s DACA rescission efforts. But safeguarding Dreamers from deportation should not require a court decision. At the end of the day, Congress and the president must work together to forge a permanent legislative solution offering these outstanding individuals certainty and the ability to plan for the future in the only country they have ever called home.”
