January 15, 2021

A workshop for campus leaders taking place next month via ACE Engage® will feature experts from Excelencia in Education explaining and examining evidence-based practices to address key challenges and opportunities for a more equitable approach to Latino student success.

The two-part workshop titled, “Implementing What Works for Latino Students,” will take place Feb. 3 and Feb. 23 and will be led by Eyra Pérez, technical assistance director for the Seal of Excelencia, and Deborah A. Santiago, co-founder and chief executive officer of Excelencia in Education.

Attendees will learn how to intentionally implement and advance evidence-based programs and policies that increase Latino student success as well as discuss tools to assess Latino student strengths and needs, identify metrics to determine program effectiveness, and focus on being intentional in serving Latino student populations through program sustainability and institutionalization.

Each two-hour session is geared toward administrators, faculty, and staff from institutions that are focused on serving Latino students, particularly post-traditional students.

Feb. 2, noon–2:00 p.m. ET

Participants will examine evidence-based practices with a Latino lens for an equitable approach to student success. Participants will leave the session having identified at least one key action to move toward solutions that they will take prior to Session 2.

Feb. 23, noon–2:00 p.m. ET

Workshop participants will share what they learned from the actions they took after Session 1 and determine next steps to improve Latino student success. The workshop facilitators will share additional resources and opportunities for deepening learning and getting support from a network of programs and community of common cause. Participants will put their plans into action after the workshop.
