Department of Education Releases Draft Rule on Title IX Sexual Assault
November 19, 2018

The Department of Education (ED) released a proposed rule on Title IX sexual assault Friday, with publication in the Federal Register—which kicks off the formal 60-day comment period—yet to be announced.

Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos in September 2017 rescinded the 2011 and 2014 guidelines issued by the Obama administration on campus sexual assault, and has spent the past year gathering input on from a wide array of groups and stakeholders, from institutions to survivors to the accused.

As Inside Higher Ed wrote this morning, there already are many differing views being expressed about the rule and its potential impact, and a larger-than-usual number of comments will undoubtedly be submitted. ACE has started a web page with resources on the rule that institutions planning to comment might find helpful. It will be updated throughout the process. ACE also will file comments on the draft regulations.

For details and reaction to the NPRM, we are also maintaining a list of selected news stories on the resource page.
