Statement by ACE President Ted Mitchell on President Trump’s Proposed FY 2020 Budget
March 11, 2019

“This is the third year in a row that the Trump administration has proposed to walk away from adequately investing in student financial aid and incredibly important, life-saving biomedical research. If enacted, the president’s proposal would cut over $200 billion in federal student aid and also cut billions more in funding for the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, threatening the well-being of our nation’s students and citizenry.

Over the past several years, Congress has consistently increased funding for student financial aid and biomedical research. We urge lawmakers to maintain that positive record and reject the draconian cuts envisioned by the proposed FY 2020 budget released today by the White House.

We share the concerns that lawmakers from both sides of the aisle have expressed about this budget proposal, and look forward to working with Congress to continue the long-standing, bipartisan support for federal student aid and research funding.”
