The 2019-20 class of the ACE Fellows Program
kicked off their leadership development experience with an orientation
last week at ACE’s offices in Washington, DC. Through two days of panels
and interactive learning sessions, Fellows explored the context in
which their journey towards senior higher education leadership will
begin.
The ACE Fellows Program condenses years of
on-the-job experience and skills development into a single year. It is
the most effective, comprehensive leadership development program in U.S.
higher education today. Of the nearly 2,000 Fellows to date, more than
80 percent have served as chief executive officers, chief academic
officers, other cabinet level positions, and deans.
This year’s orientation included a session
examining individual work styles, titled “Understanding Yourself in the
Leadership Context” and led by Louis Soares, chief learning and
innovation officer of ACE’s Learning and Engagement division. All during
orientation, participants joked and laughed as they built relationships
with other members of their cohort and heard advice and guidance
from past participants.
The Fellows will complete a summer project
before participating in the opening retreat in Hartford, CT, in August
and beginning their fellowship placements at another institution, where
they will be mentored by that campus’s leadership. Members of the
2019-20 class were announced in March—click here to view the list of participants.
Could you or someone on your campus benefit from this experience? Applications for the 2020-21 class of Fellows are open. Apply or nominate a colleague for this unique opportunity.
