Thirteen Higher Education Institutions Join ACE Internationalization Lab Cohort 19 to Strengthen Global Engagement
August 16, 2021

Four additional institutions return for a second round of internationalization strategizing in Internationalization Lab 2.0

As the landscape of our current era continues to be shaped by the COVID-19 global pandemic, the ebb and flow of political and social movements, a worldwide economic recession, accelerating climate change, and other factors, a comprehensive, equitable internationalization strategy is essential for institutional agility and long-term success.

Members of the 2021-23 Cohort of the ACE Internationalization Laboratory will work to build such strategies, tailored to their unique institutional contexts, with guidance from expert lab advisors, ACE program staff, and peer support.

The members of Internationalization Lab Cohort 19 are:

  • Augustana College
  • Bentley University
  • Bryant University
  • Bucknell University
  • College of Saint Benedict & Saint John's University
  • Education New Zealand
  • Louisiana State University
  • Middle Tennessee State University
  • Minnesota State University, Mankato
  • Pomona College
  • Saint Norbert College
  • University of Central Florida
  • University of Nevada, Reno

“As we prepare to mark the 20th anniversary of the Internationalization Lab, I am so proud of the institutional transformation it has enabled thus far and excited to see what we will accomplish going forward," said Kara Godwin, director of internationalization at ACE. "There has perhaps never been a more critical time for institutions of higher education to revisit, recalibrate, and recommit to shared values and global cooperation."

The official work of the cohort will kick off Sept. 9 with a virtual opening meeting. The cohort will convene as a whole twice more and also participate in monthly "Lab Chat" webinars that bring the community together for conversations, collaboration, and learning that supplement their work throughout the Lab journey.

ACE Launches Inaugural Cohort of Internationalization Lab 2.0

New Jersey City University, Gallaudet University, Western Michigan University, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro will make up the first official cohort to go through the Internationalization (IZN) Lab a second time. Institutions will use IZN Lab 2.0 to emphasize or catalyze a particular goal or goals in their strategic plan, or develop a new strategic plan, based on the outcomes and implemented initiatives stemming from their previous IZN Lab experience.

Given the severe and ongoing disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, now is a critical time for institutions to reset and reassess in a comprehensive way, that is also strategic, collaborative, and intentional. Lab 2.0 participants will focus on evaluating the outcomes of their institution’s previous IZN Lab experience, assessing the progress their institution has made relevant to those outcomes in the intervening years, and further developing or revising their institution’s continued global engagement efforts.

The pilot cohort will launch in September 2021 and engage institutions over six to nine months.
