White House to Host Call Wednesday on President’s Young African Leaders Initiative

January 07, 2013

The White House has invited higher education representatives to join a conference call Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 4:30 p.m. EST, to discuss potential public-private partnerships as part of the President’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).

Engaging the next generation of African leaders is a key priority of President Obama’s policy toward sub-Saharan Africa, as highlighted in the U.S. Strategy Toward Sub-Saharan Africa. As part of this strategy, YALI will help young Africans by supporting leadership development, promoting entrepreneurship and connecting these young leaders with one another and with Americans.

Joining the conference call will be Grant Harris, special assistant to the president and senior director for African Affairs; Don Steinberg, USAID deputy administrator; Johnnie Carson, assistant secretary of state for the Bureau of African Affairs; and Ann Stock, assistant secretary of state for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Please RSVP to international@who.eop.gov to receive the call-in number. The passcode title is “White House Call on the President’s Young African Leaders Initiative.”
