At ACE’s second International Education Roundtable May 9, American embassy representatives from nine countries took an in-depth look at issues facing the global higher education community.

The nine members of the 10th cohort of ACE’s Internationalization Laboratory met last week in Washington for a mid-year seminar, sharing both their accomplishments and challenges encountered on campus. Among the topics covered during the lively discussion, one of three meetings planned for the cohort, were the idea of student badges for global education experiences outside the classroom and for academics, recruitment of international students, and how to use branding to further internationalization.

Nirupama Rao, India’s ambassador to the United States, delivered the keynote address last week at the 13th annual meeting of ACE’s Leadership Network on International Education, discussing the relationship between United States and India and the key role higher education institutions play in connecting the world’s nations.

According to a new report from Institute of International Education (IIE), international student enrollment is at a record high—up nearly 6 percent in the past academic year—and 1 percent more U.S. students are studying abroad.

Over the course of the Laboratory, cohort members will work to increase global engagement on campus by forming leadership teams to work on strategic planning and student outcomes, attending community meetings in Washington, and participating in site visits and peer reviews, among other activities.
