New college and university presidents from all sectors of higher education still have time to apply for the 2014-15 class of the ACE Institute for New Presidents.

Designed specifically for presidents in their first two years of service, the Institute is a nine-month program consisting of three in-person meetings.

The initial session for the 2014-15 class will take place July 15-17, 2014, in Portland, OR. Other meeting dates are Dec. 2-4, 2014, in Nashville, TN, and March 13-14, 2015, during ACE’s 97th Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.

The program is highly participatory, incorporating interactive panels, case studies presented by program participants, conversations with peers from a range of institutions and briefings by national experts. Sessions are facilitated by experienced and highly successful presidents and other senior leaders and experts in the field.

“As a new president, I found the experience I had at ACE's Institute for New Presidents (INP) to be invaluable,” said Nancy Uscher, president of Cornish College of the Arts (WA). “Not only did the program provide a rich set of resources and contacts for me as an educational leader, but when INP was mentioned as bolstering my presidential qualifications in an external evaluation of the college, I realized that the Institute was also perceived as an institutional asset.”

Past sessions have focused on how best to handle the transition into a presidency and the all-important first year, including:

  • Governance: working effectively with your board
  • Building a high performing executive team
  • Leading in times of crisis
  • Working with the media
  • Launching a comprehensive campaign
  • Branding your institution
  • Effective use of legal counsel

ACE encourages presidents from all institutional types to apply. Click here for the online application.
