Academic Research on Military-Connected Students

Dating to its founding in 1918, the American Council on Education (ACE) has a long history of serving both military-connected students and the diverse array of colleges and universities that welcome them as they undertake postsecondary education. In its role as higher education’s coordinating body and convener, ACE provides colleges and universities with tools, resources, and ways to share information about how to best serve this student population. ACE helps military and veteran students attain their postsecondary education goals through evaluations of military training and experiences and by facilitating the process of military transcripts.

Toolkit for Veteran Friendly Institutions

Originally designed as a collaborative online resource, the ACE's Toolkit for Veteran Friendly Institutions (now archived after functioning from 2012 to 2016 as an online resource) helps institutions of higher education build effective programs for veteran students and share information. It highlights a variety of best practices, including veteran-specific orientation, on-campus veteran service centers, prospective student outreach efforts, faculty training, and counseling and psychological services for veteran students.
