While many believe that women’s battle for gender parity in the workplace has already been won, recent data suggest that this is far from reality. According to ACE’s The American College President 2017 report, only 30% of the nation’s college and university presidents are women and the rate of change has stalled since the late 1990s.
This collaborative, multi-association initiative seeks to increase the number of women in senior leadership positions in higher education through programs, research, and resources.
A roundtable discussion featuring over 25 representatives from associations and organization’s with active women’s leadership agendas was held at ACE in the summer of 2012 with the goals of:
- Raising national awareness and visibility of this issue.
- Mapping what each participating organization is doing to promote the advancement of women leaders in higher education.
- Discussing ways in which we can collaborate across organizations to leverage our individual efforts more effectively.
- Developing a blueprint for action and setting aspirational goals for the next 5 years.
