Since its launch in 1986 by ACE, the American College President Study (ACPS) has served the higher education community as the most comprehensive, in-depth, and cited source of information about the college presidency and the higher education leadership pipeline.
ACE is preparing to release the eighth edition soon.
The American College President Study 2017 contains data on presidential demographics, search and selection processes, career trajectories and the duties and responsibilities of college and university chief executive officers. For the first time, the report also examines the views of presidents in three key areas: diversity and inclusion; state funding and political climate; and areas of importance for the future.
Prepared by ACE’s Center for Policy Research and Strategy in partnership with the TIAA Institute, the ACPS offers key insight about the presidency from across the spectrum of higher education institutions. The latest edition derives from a 2016 survey of nearly 1,600 college and university presidents nationwide.
