2016 Executive Forum for Leading Internationalization

Engaging International Students: Beyond Recruiting

November 01, 2016

Summary

The Executive Forum for Leading Internationalization is an annual, one-day meeting of presidents, chief academic officers (CAOs), and senior international officers (with their president or CAO) to explore strategies for advancing internationalization. For the 2016 Executive Forum, ACE also welcomed chief student affairs officers (CSAOs), accompanied by their president or CAO. Institutional teams of 3 or fewer are encouraged to attend.

The 2016 Executive Forum meeting addressed strategies for advancing internationalization goals through the presence of international students on campus. While most institutions today have a strategy in place for recruiting international students, it may not extend to their on-campus experience, integration, and learning.

Speakers at the Executive Forum discussed the following questions:

  • How can campus leaders ensure that the presence of international students contributes to comprehensive internationalization?
  • What factors most influence international student satisfaction, retention, and success?
  • How can admissions, faculty, student affairs, and international program staff collaborate in order to integrate international students?
  • What are proven strategies for engaging international and domestic students, both in and out of the classroom, for shared learning and cross-cultural experience?

The 2016 Executive Forum for Leading Internationalization was sponsored by ELS Educational Services, Inc.
