Program Type: Summit

Summits are one- to two-day virtual, in-person, or hybrid events centered on a particular theme. They provide insights, practical advice, and collaborative solutions from national and regional experts, leaders, and practitioners. Summit themes address issues and challenges that are broad in scope, require campus-wide approaches, and involve an array of stakeholders.

Toward Greater Inclusion and Success: A New Compact for International Students

The events of 2020 brought considerable attention to international students and the benefits their presence brings to our campuses and communities. However, with national policies and the COVID-19 pandemic jeopardizing enrollments, much of this attention focused on the economic impact of international students, while neglecting the tremendous contributions they make to internationalization, student learning, and society more broadly.

This year’s Internationalization Collaborative will feature the release of Toward Greater Inclusion and Success: A New Compact for International Students, a new report from ACE. Grounded in sustainability, equity, and humanism and based on an extensive review of previous research and emerging good practices, the report defines success in terms of student, institutional, and societal outcomes. It proposes key strategies and practical approaches for institutions to establish lifelong relationships with international students and to ensure that these students not only thrive academically and socially while on campus, but are also well prepared for careers and life upon graduation.

Collaborative speakers will include scholars, campus leaders and practitioners, and students. Plenary sessions will focus on the research findings, their implications for practice, and strategies for building campus-wide commitment. Break-out sessions will provide the opportunity for in-depth discussion among participants and sharing good practices.

Participants will have access to the new ACE report, as well as related resources and opportunities for ongoing networking.

Please note that a separate registration is required for the AIEA Annual Conference.
