September 12, 2025

ACE will unveil a powerful new resource next month that will showcase how higher education drives economic growth across the United States.

The Economic Impact of Higher Education in America, to be held Oct. 6 at Howard University in Washington, DC, will mark the public launch of ACE’s Higher Education Economic Indicators Tool, a comprehensive database highlighting the economic value of colleges and universities across local, state, regional, and national economies.

The event will convene higher education leaders, policymakers, and advocates for a program that will include national-level insights, practical applications of the tool, and a broader conversation of higher education’s value.

ACE President Ted Mitchell will kick off the event with remarks on the central role of higher education in strengthening the U.S. economy. After a presentation of the tool, a panel discussion moderated by Sara Custer, editor in chief of Inside Higher Ed, will explore the broader economic value of higher education. Panelists include:

  • Jared C. Bass, senior vice president for education at the Center for American Progress;
  • Andrew Flagel, president and CEO of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area; and
  • Mamie Voight, president and CEO of the Institute for Higher Education Policy.

The event will conclude with a networking reception where attendees can connect with leaders from across sectors.
