The Institute of International
Education (IIE), founded in 1919, last week celebrated its 100th
anniversary by recognizing key partners in their mission to build a more
peaceful and equitable world through academic and cultural exchange. Brad
Farnsworth, ACE vice president for global engagement, was on hand at the Jan.
29 ceremony to accept the IIE Centennial Medal on behalf of ACE.
The medal was awarded to a select few organizations and
individuals who have contributed to the field of international education
through government service, leadership in academic exchange and global
mobility, philanthropic excellence, and corporate support for advancement of
international education and relations.

“ACE is honored to receive this medal,” said Farnsworth. “In
an increasingly globalized society, international education is more important
than ever, and we are proud to work alongside organizations like IIE to advance
our shared vision of a world connected by education and mutual understanding.”
Robin Helms, deputy chief innovation officer and principal
internationalization strategist at ACE, also received the medal as an
individual for her involvement in the Council for International Exchange of
Scholars Advisory Board at IIE. Helms accepted her award in summer 2019.
Internationalization and global engagement are core
components of ACE’s work, expressed through a number of program offerings,
research, advocacy efforts, and partnerships. Major initiatives include the Internationalization
Laboratory, a major research study produced every five years on “Mapping
Internationalization across U.S. Campuses,” and efforts
to keep institutions apprised of a proposed change to how they must report foreign
gifts and contracts to the federal government.
