Description

Objective:

The course objective is to develop learner skills and schemata to comprehend criminal and military slang as well as obscenities and profanity. This one-week advanced-level course aims to provide students with training that will improve their skills as analysts of the modern (i.e. real) Russian language.

Learning Outcomes:

  • recognize criminal and military slang and profanity delivered with normal clarity and speed
  • contrast differences between varieties of criminal and military slang
  • detect slang and profanity-expressed emotional overtones, implications, and hidden assumptions
  • identify the socio-cultural background of a person related to their use of slang and profanity
