Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide an educational opportunity for mid-career security specialists to gain in-depth knowledge, skills, and understanding of leadership principles and skills needed to support Department of Defense security programs. It is designed to help prepare the senior security manager for increasing leadership responsibilities in support of DoD security programs. This course examines dimensions of leadership styles, concepts, and principles of leadership and how these apply to leadership in Defense Security. It addresses communication in problem-solving processes, leadership skills and management, and roles of leadership in complex wartime and peacetime environments while giving the students a solid theoretical foundation and providing students with the practical tools and strategies necessary for survival in today's dynamic environment.

  • Analyze the leader's role for motivating employees to accomplish the mission by examining techniques and methods of various subject matter experts
  • Analyze cultural factors that affect organizational performance

  • Analyze a case study based on the principles of leadership with at least eighty percent accuracy of the learning objectives
  • Evaluate effective leadership tools to assess emotional intelligence, communication style, and conflict resolution

  • Create an advocate leader by using the principles of influence, position, and stakeholder concerns to improve the component
  • Create constructive strategies to the changing environment
  • Create a plan for transforming a hypothetical DoD directorate from a traditional office environment to one that embraces telework
  • Create a plan to solve the leadership and organizational challenges in the fictitious Joint Defense Services Agency with at least eighty percent accuracy in maximizing the course learning objectives
