Summary

Join this year’s Executive Forum for Leading Internationalization to share and learn best practices and insights for incorporating digital technology as part of your institution's internationalization strategy. ​

To stay on the forward edge of internationalization, higher education leaders are integrating a broad range of technology approaches for innovation in curriculum, partnerships, and student mobility.  

Interactive e-learning classrooms and online degree programs are promising options for institutions to produce more accessible, affordable, and scalable global opportunities. Student success planning systems, data analytic software, and artificial intelligence can help institutions streamline internal communications, as well as to support strategic decision making about their global engagement.

In a field that is constantly innovating, how do senior leaders make critical decisions about the best technology options? When is technology NOT the answer for moving internationalization forward? How do senior leaders evaluate the costs and benefits of investing in new technologies?

The ACE Executive Forum for Leading Internationalization​ is an annual invitational meeting open only to university and college presidents, chief academic officers, and senior international officers and features discussion of critical issues in advancing the internationalization of higher education. ACE also invites chief data information and technology officers to attend this year’s Executive Forum.

Planning Global Engagement: Harnessing Campus Data

In an era of data-driven decision-making, senior administrators need analytical tools for identifying institutional strengths and measuring outcomes. While many higher edu​cation institutions are engaged in a broad range of international activities, it may be difficult for them to track the full range and scope of their efforts. How can international education leaders make impact assessment an integral part of strategic planning and funding allocations? Are there cost-effective technology tools, particularly for small or under- resourced colleges and universities? Are there proven practices for capturing qualitative outcomes, such as learning, research, and service?

The session will spotlight one U.S. institution’s experience developing a comprehensive data and analytics-based global engagement model, from the international office to the information technology office to the president’s office.

Extending Global Learning and Reach through Online Technology

Interactive e-learning classrooms and online degree programs can be accessible, affordable, and scalable options for institutions to extend their global reach.  As technology becomes increasingly integrated across various units on campus—colleges and schools, university relations, adult and continuing education, faculty development, instructional design, international programs—there may be leadership and administrative challenges. What is the role of senior leaders in coordinating and sustaining various forms of global online programs, and how can they ensure consistency and quality? This session will feature senior leaders responsible for an array of global online learning models discussing the leadership strategies they have adopted for this emerging area.

Digital Strategies to Improve International Student Retention

Competition for international students is growing, and many U.S. institutions are focusing efforts on international student support and integration to gain a competitive edge, in addition to recruiting. Many international students maintain robust social networks in their home countries, and integration challenges can affect future recruitment prospects. 

International students face both academic and nonacademic complexities, including linguistic, cultural, physical, and mental health issues -- that require institutional support services. How can campuses use technology to strengthen services and support for international students?  Drawing from a variety of colleges and universities, this session’s speakers will discuss examples of digital tools that have improved international student retention on their campuses.
