Kara Godwin

Director for Internationalization

Kara Godwin is the director for internationalization at the American Council on Education (ACE), where she leads the ACE Internationalization Laboratory and global engagement efforts. She contributes to cross-council research, policy, and innovation with a focus on equity and strategic transformation.  

Godwin is a former research fellow at the Boston College Center for International Higher Education. Her previous experience includes partnering with governments, nongovernmental organizations, and higher education institutions on issues of internationalization, strategic policy, evaluation and assessment, community partnerships, democratic engagement, emerging economies, and interdisciplinary/liberal arts education. She has worked with clients such as Duke University and Duke Kunshan University, Olin College of Engineering, and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation. For several years, she led programs at the Northwestern University Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching and collaborated with the international office. In her former career, she was an IT project manager in the United States and United Kingdom. 

Godwin is a Pell Grant recipient and first-generation college graduate who earned a PhD in comparative and international education from Boston College, an MS in higher education leadership from Northwestern University, and a BA in political science and English from Augustana College.​
