Prominent Voices on Immigration, Politics to Address ACE2020

​Jose Antonio Vargas, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Emmy-nominated filmmaker, and Tony-nominated producer, will be the featured speaker during the Monday Luncheon Plenary at ACE2020, ACE's 102nd Annual Meeting in San Diego, which starts Saturday, March 14, and concludes Monday evening, March 16.

Vargas, a leading voice for the human rights of immigrants, is the author of the best-selling memoir, Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen and founded the nonprofit media and culture organization Define American. The Monday Luncheon Plenary is generously supported by Fidelity Investments.

Closing Plenary to feature Powers and Steele

Later on Monday, political analysts Kirsten Powers and Michael Steele will discuss the 2020 election landscape during the ACE2020 Closing Plenary, which is generously supported by the ECMC Foundation.

Powers is an author, USA Today columnist, and CNN political analyst where she appears regularly across the channel, including on Anderson Cooper 360, CNN Tonight with Don Lemon, and The Lead with Jake Tapper. When Steele was elected Maryland lieutenant governor in 2003, he made history as the first African American elected to statewide office; and again with his subsequent chairmanship of the Republican National Committee in 2009. Steele's ability as a communicator and commentator has been showcased through his current role as a political analyst for MSNBC.

Other plenary speakers include: Roger W. Ferguson Jr., president and CEO of TIAA, and Kai Ryssdal, host and senior editor of Marketplace, who will examine how the broader national economic outlook affects higher education during the Sunday Luncheon Plenary; and Diana S. Natalicio, a leading advocate for improving higher education equity and access and former president of the University of Texas at El Paso, who will deliver the Robert H. Atwell Plenary address Sunday afternoon.
