ACE Convening Will Address How to Navigate a Campus Racial Crisis
October 31, 2018

ACE is hosting and livestreaming a convening Nov. 29 to explore findings from a new report on how the University of Missouri responded to a 2015 crisis on its campus and offer recommendations for university leaders who strive to create and maintain a positive racial climate.

The convening will feature leaders from the University of Missouri—Columbia and the University of Missouri System, who will be discussing lessons learned from that crisis as well as findings presented in the soon-to-be-released report, “Speaking Truth and Acting With Integrity: Confronting Challenges of Campus Racial Climate.”

The report offers a useful framework for campus leaders who want to build their own institution’s capacity for addressing diversity and inclusion. Convening participants will receive action-oriented resources based on the report's findings and will learn how to implement the lessons learned on their own campuses.

The report’s co-author, Sharon Fries-Britt of the University of Maryland, will present an overview of the study. That will be followed by ACE Vice President of Research Lorelle Espinosa moderating a discussion with Fries-Britt, Kevin McDonald, University of Missouri System chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer, and University of Missouri-Columbia Chancellor Alexander Cartwright.

The report, which will be released Nov. 13, is a collaboration between the University of Missouri--Columbia’s Division of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity and ACE’s Center for Policy Research and Strategy (CPRS).

Participants must register to attend the convening event on Nov. 29, either virtually or at ACE’s offices in Washington, DC. Click here to see more details and to register for the event.
