Description

Objective:

The course objective is to prepare students for completion of the Building Automation Advanced Bundle. This bundle is a combination of the following courses: Building Automation Systems Integration, BACnet 1, Building Automation Systems Integration, LonWorks 1, and Building Automation Systems Integration 2. This course covers operation, signaling, and functions of the common sensors, actuators, and other control devices used in building automation systems for commercial buildings. It also focuses on the two leading open protocols, LonWorks¨ and BACnet¨. Students will apply their knowledge of Open Protocols and how they are implemented.

Learning Outcomes:

  • identify the different Voice-Data-Video systems
  • list different HVAC control devices
  • explore each system includes mounting requirements, potential pitfalls, physics of the measured variable and wiring requirements including diagrams and points lists
  • determine the control devices that are used to achieve a desired outcome
  • identify plumbing systems, elevator systems and fire protection systems
  • explain the function and application of each control device
  • demonstrate how security systems and access control systems work
  • explain system integration and cross-protocol integration and how they are used
  • explore future trends in building automation.
  • provide the information necessary to control devices which communicate over a network using open protocols
