Description

Objective:

The course objective is to provide networking knowledge of network topologies, the OSI model, network protocols, wireless technologies, and basic wiring principles; provide knowledge of routing networks, IP addresses, network security, WAN, troubleshooting, fault tolerance, and administration of networks.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe various types of networks and network configurations and explain the function of protocols and network configuration processes
  • Describe the transmission methods and identify devices used on Ethernet networks and describe the components of an Ethernet frame
  • Identify the components of a wireless network and describe the advantages and disadvantages of wireless networks
  • Develop a basic understanding of switches and their differences and describe common labeling of ports and switches
  • Identify the basic functions of a router and describe basic routing and router connections
  • Describe the basics of firewalls and security and recognize the ways computers are attacked and can be used for future attacks
  • Identify the different types of applications, such as client-run, client/server, and distributed
  • Identify basic cable troubleshooting techniques
  • Describe malware and those that may affect a network or computer
  • Obtain a basic understanding of SNMP
