Description

Objective:

The course objective is to cover analog signal types and analog devices used in motor controls. Advanced topics such as variable speed drives, programmable logic controllers, and networks are presented. The course concludes with detailed methods for system-wide troubleshooting of motor control systems using real-world applications.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the different types of DC motors and motor starters
  • Explain solid-state DC drive operation
  • Identify similarities and differences found when comparing discrete and analog signals
  • Define typical analog signal types and ranges used to represent variables in a control system
  • Identify different types of transducers and describe the characteristics of each type of transducer
  • Describe installation techniques for analog transducers
  • Identify procedures used to troubleshoot solid-state motor control devices
  • Identify different types of control systems by their operating characteristics
  • Describe the function and operation of programmable logic controllers
  • Describe programming techniques for programmable logic controllers
  • Identify configuration properties of industrial networks
  • Analyze system block diagrams to identify a troubleshooting strategy
  • Demonstrate an understanding of basic bracketing techniques
