Description

Objective:

The course objective is to introduce the fundamentals of access control and Level II is to introduce how locking devices impact life safety and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Learning Outcomes:

  • identify credentials and credentialing reading equipment and describe how biometric differs from standard credentials
  • describe the types and functions of electronic locks and define electrical characteristics that affect locks
  • define applicable life safety codes and standards and describe operational and safety concerns associated with using magnetic locks
  • describe fire rating requirements and hardware
  • identify various specialized portal types, explain how specialized portals operate and describe the characteristics of specialized portals
  • describe the basic functions and minimum requirements for access control
  • explain how access control panels communicate and describe how integration can be utilized to improve the functionality of the system
  • describe how alarm systems function.
  • describe the fundamental concepts of access control and identify assets, users, and criminals
