Description

Objective:

The course objective is to become a more effective public speaker, as well as a more critical public receiver of information; demonstrate the ability to listen and speak competently and effectively in a variety of communication contexts, which may include public, group, and/or interpersonal; and increase understanding of the principles and processes of communicating effectively in public contexts and to facilitate development of your skills in listening, interpersonal and public communication.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Practice refining verbal and non-verbal communication and delivery techniques
  • Demonstrate verbal, nonverbal, and research techniques and competencies through researching, preparing, and delivering presentations relevant to an audience for the purposes of gaining and retaining audience attention
  • Identify and implement strategies for combating nerves and stage fright
  • Evaluate and deliver constructive feedback to peers based on public speaking best practices
  • Analyze and critique public communication presentations made by others including narrative speeches, impromptus, interview preparation, elevator pitches, informative, persuasive, and special occasion speeches.
