Description

Objective:

The course objective is to prepare students for an entry-level position as a Data Entry Clerk in a business environment. Students are instructed in the areas of keyboarding, numeric data entry, basic functions and operations of a personal computer, business communications in the workplace, and creating basic business documents in Microsoft Word.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate understanding and proper usage of commonly used key terms and phrases associated with a personal computer
  • Demonstrate understanding of how to operate a personal computer and its peripherals
  • Demonstrate understanding and utilization of basic features of a Windows operating system
  • Demonstrate keyboarding proficiency on the alphanumeric keyboard at a minimum rate of 35 wpm (words per minute) with accuracy
  • Demonstrate data entry on the numeric keypad at a minimum rate of 8000 kph (keystrokes per hour) with proficiency
  • Demonstrate proper business communications skills, both oral and written
  • Create basic professional business documents
  • Demonstrate understanding of the development and evolution of the personal computer
  • Demonstrate understanding and uses of the functions of software applications found in a business environment (including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and multimedia applications)
  • Demonstrate basic maintenance of a personal computer
  • Demonstrate proper file management in a Windows operating system environment
  • Demonstrate core level skills in understanding and utilizing Microsoft Word software
