Description

Objective:

The course objective is to teach students about materials management, demand planning, basic forecasting techniques, supply planning, safety, inventory management, achieving efficiencies, and customer satisfaction as it relates to supply chain management at the VA.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explain the policies and procedures related to the planning process for requirements determination, including working with the customer to understand recurring and nonrecurring purchases and identifying the preferred source of supply and alternative sto
  • Describe supply and demand planning concepts, such as economic order quantity, par levels, and periodic customer reviews
  • Explain basic receiving procedures and best practices, including documentation verification, separation of duties, and processing receipts
  • Identify policies and procedures related to inventory planning, with a focus on planning inventories, gains and losses of inventory, and plans for controlled medical items
  • Describe the concepts and methodologies for internal distribution systems to customers, including issues and due-outs, and identify issues and potential solutions for topics such as warehouse refusals
  • Describe success measures applied to demand planning, receiving, and distribution.
