Description

Objective:

The course objective is to teach, when given a scenario using a mock port of entry/checkpoint, the proper inspection of a hazardous materials shipment for compliance; plus effective control of a hazmat situation. Inspection and hazmat control are to be in accordance with the Emergency Response Guidebook, NIOSH Pocket Guide, and the Hazardous Materials, Substances, and Wastes Compliance Guide.

Learning Outcomes:

  • safely inspect and determine compliance of a hazardous shipment in accordance with federal laws and guidance (DOT, EPA, and OSHA guidelines)
  • be able to effectively control a hazmat emergency by identifying specific chemical hazards to efficiently secure, isolate, and notify the scene using the appropriate guidance.
