Description

Objective:

This course develops and certifies Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers and agents to deliver high-performance firearms training and use of force tactics education at CBP locations worldwide.

The Firearms Instructor Training Program (FITP) is a 15-day (120-hour) comprehensive firearms and instructor development program designed to provide CBP firearms instructor (FI) candidates with the tools necessary to safely and effectively conduct firearms and tactics training. The course focuses on CBP’s weapon systems, to include their operation, care, and maintenance. It also introduces new instructors to proper use of force techniques, teaching techniques, judgment, de-escalation, scenario-based training, and identifying and resolving shooter problems and errors.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Conduct an Advanced Firearms Training Exercise (AFTE)
  • Provide aid and activate emergency services in response to a trauma incident
  • Apply the shooting skills hierarchy to carbine training
  • Conduct interactive use of force training
  • Apply low-light principles to training
  • Evaluate safe weapon handling skills in a dynamic environment
  • Perform firearms instructor roles in the Firearms, Armor, and Credentials Tracking System (FACTS)
  • Evaluate safe weapon handling skills and best practices
  • Apply the shooting skills hierarchy to pistol training
  • Provide answers to use of force related questions
  • Perform authorized firearms instructor level modifications for Glock model handguns
  • Evaluate remediation strategies for improving shooter performance
